The sapwood and the heartwood are not sharply separated. The sapwood is very narrow and grey brown, while the heartwood is golden brown to olive brown, often also darker striped and with a beautiful golden-glow. The wood mostly appears very decorative. The wood has no taste, but often a spicy smell, which disapwoodpears with drying. The growth zones clearly come forward. The structure is straight grained, the texture is somewhat rough and not completely constant.
