The sapwood and the heartwood are clearly distinguishable. The sapwood is broad and grey white. The heartwood mostly is in buttress and fork-knots maser-grown. The color of the heartwood is dependent on age and location, grey brown to dark brown, often wavy, striped and cloudy, matt-finished. Growth layers and annual rings are differently pronounced. Fibres and deviations of fibres are frequently. The wood is medium-heavy, fairly hard and bends well. Very decorative and shrinkage is moderate.
