Characteristics
The sapwood-breadth of the 4 woods is about 3 cm for mature trees and is light grey to pallid yellow. The heartwood in Tasmanian Oak has a light oak color, partially with a pink shimmer; this type belongs to the lightest group of the Blue Gum wood. By contrast Jarrah, Karri and Red Ironbark offer reddish brown to dark ruby colored heartwoods, as most frequently occur among the Blue Gum wood. Pores are medium-sized to rough, for Red Ironbark only medium-sized.
