Description
Botanical Name
Bambusa brandisii Shuttl., Bambusa arundinacea Willd., Bambusa orientalis Nees. (Fam. Gramineae)
Trade Names
Bambus, Bamboo, Bambou, Bambu
Substitution
Indigenous to
Asia, America, Africa and Japan
Characteristics
Bamboo resembles on other wood. The vascular bundle-strings are not arranged in a circle, but irregularly deposited on the trunk cross cut. A continuous tight growth with wood build up is therefore not possible, making it a unique and rare tree form. This species actually belongs to the grass family and should be mentioned as a result of its great commercial relevance.
