Characteristics

A coniferous tree, which grows very slowly and reaches a great age. The sapwood and the heartwood are well separated. The sapwood is small and yellowish-white, while the heartwood is brownish, reddish brown, orange-brown, sometimes mahogany-colored or violet. The annual rings are very thin and, depending on the growing area, they are both fine and coarse-wavy, by broad and darkish summerwood-zones protuberant. Therefore the wood is very decorative.
