Characteristics

The sapwood and the heartwood are not sharply separated. A special heart-coloration is missing. The wood is whitish, often with a yellowish or reddish shimmer. Silver Fir is similar to Whitewood, but is pallid in its coloration. The annual rings are sharply deposited with regular devolution. The summerwood is reddish yellow. The structure is straight grown; the texture is fine and constant. Silver Fir has no resin, often a brownish wet-heart and an acid smell. The wood shrinks very little and is not weatherproof.
