Centralwest and Northeast of the USA, but also in southern Ontario down to Florida, and in Nebraska.

Characteristics

The tree gets a height of up to 40 m with a diameter up to 250 cm. The trunk mostly is up to 8 m free of knots. The sapwood and the heartwood are sharply separated. The sapwood is whitely and by forest trees very narrow, in contrast to freestanding growing trees which are very wide. The heartwood has a beautiful, very dark brown color in different shades. The structure has almost a silky shine. The wood is heavy, hard, firm durable and straight grained. American Black Walnut is bendable and elastic. The wood splits very easy.
