Characteristics
The sapwood and the heartwood are sharply separated. The sapwood is narrow (1 to 2,5 cm) and nearly colorless. The heartwood is red to red brown and veined with brighter, yellow parenchyma, which clearly emerge after planing. The pores are big and clearly visible, annual rings are not visible. The structure is seldom straight grained, mostly cross-grain and spirally grown, the texture is rough and not constant.
