Characteristics
The sapwood and the heartwood are not sharply separated. The sapwood is narrow and grey pink, while the heartwood is light reddish brown when freshly cut, but when exposed to light it turns darker. The wood resembles steamed European Beech or Pear. The annual rings are visible as fine, sharp lines also in longitudinal cut. The structure is very straight grained and irregular, the texture is fine and constant, with a beautiful, silky shine. The wood has no specific taste or smell.
