Characteristics

The sapwood and the heartwood are not sharply separated. The sapwood is narrow and somewhat lighter than the heartwood, which is brownish with a reddish shimmer. It only turns darker a little. And it is ring porous just like European Oak. Annual rings are clearly visible. In general the structure is straight grained and thick-fibrous, the texture is medium coarse and constant.
