The northern and north-eastern Central states of the USA and a South strip of Canada are the native growing area from Hard Maple.
Characteristics
The texture is either patternless or with a slight flaming figuration. The heartwood is yellowish-white to white, when fresh cut light reddish, later it turns darker. Annual ring borders are hardly visible, wood rays are visible to the naked eye but vessels are primary observable under the loupe. Maple is very decorative.
