Characteristics
Bird´s eye: punctual, fine-snaggy structural changes caused by disturbances during growth of the cambium, associated with tangential-, also radial-undulated, overlaid grain course, appearing eye-like, sometimes undulated or mottled designs of the woods. The sapwood and the heartwood are hardly different. The sapwood is light colored, creamy white, while the heartwood is light-reddish to reddish brown. It has a nice shine and often a very decorative figuring. Rays are numerous, little and unclear. The structure is short and straight grained; the texture is very fine, compact and constant.
