Appearance-wise mainly for Oak and Idigbo as well as for Lati, Yellow Meranti, light Iroko, Ayan, Olon, Agba, Krabak, Opepe, Pterygota light Limba; for technical purposes for Idigbo, Limba, Olon, Agba, Krabak, Red Meranti, Yellow Meranti as well as for softwoods European Larch and Columbian Pine.

Mainly Brazil south of the Amazon, Peru, Bolivia up to the north of Argentina

Characteristics

The sapwood and heartwood are only slightly different. The sapwood is greyish and narrow, while the heartwood is tawny to orange with a reddish shimmer. The wood is irregularly colored and has an oily shine. Annual rings are only slightly visible. The structure of the wood is cross-grain to spirally grown, the texture is middle-fine and irregular. The wood feels fatty, shrinks very little and is durable.
