tropical West- and Central Africa: Ivory Coast, Gabon, Ghana, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Zaire, Central African Republic

Characteristics

The sapwood and the heartwood differ only slightly in color. The sapwood is brighter, while the heartwood is off-white to white-yellow. The pores are numerous, open, medium-sized and scattered. The vein figurations are very fine, numerous, yellowish and visible to the naked eye. With the longitudinal cut they are tight together, straight but different lengths and dull. With the tangential cut they appear as tiny thin lines. The sapwood easily turns blue.
