The tree gets a height up to 40 m and reaches a diameter of 1 m. The sapwood and the heartwood are sharply separated. The sapwood is white to off-white. The heartwood is luminous red when freshly cut, but turns darker to orange reddish brown and later fades to a blunt brown. The wood has a fairly rough structure with regular, broad striation, cross-grain. The wood is pressure-resistant and bend-fast, elastic and easily split, very little shrinkage. The texture is smooth, striped by irregular twist and color zones, and it is very decorative. When freshly cut the tree smells a little bit aromatic.
