Characteristics

The sapwood and the heartwood are well separated. The sapwood is pale yellow to grey white, while the heartwood varies from reddish brown to dark brown. The annual rings are clearly designated by thick growth layers. Pitch streaks only occur occasionally. In general the structure is straight grained; the texture is fine and constant. The wood has a strong, pleasant smell, but no specific taste. It is light weight, soft, moderate hard and dense-fibrous.
